Air Sampling

Air Sampling

Our Energy, Fire & Security team are experts in fire detection system design, installation and maintenance for businesses.  Often a part of such systems is air sampling technology.

Air sampling systems also known as VESDA (an abbreviation for Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus), provide the earliest possible warning of a fire hazard which provides critical time to investigate an alarm and take appropriate response to prevent damage or business disruption.  Systems offer a range of warnings and levels of sensitivity that do not degrade or change meaning even small particles of smoke can be detected before a fire has escalated.

VESDA is a trade mark of Xtralis – the company which developed the solution which revolutionised early smoke detection using aspirating smoke detection (ASD) technology. This technology actively samples the air for tiny particles of smoke to detect fire at the earliest stage.  Such an early warning allows time to understand the threat, evacuate, investigate option to control a fire, suppress the fire and protect life, property and business continuity.  VESDA has become the generic name used for most air sampling applications.

A variety of models are available to accommodate most environments and can be extended for gas detection and environmental monitoring utilising the existing pipe network.

Common applications:

  • Warehouses
  • Cold stores
  • Lift shafts
  • Ceiling voids
  • Fire suppression environments
  • Computer rooms

We have designed and worked with all sizes of client on all types of job, installing and maintaining a mix of traditional fire alarms with air sampling and gas suppression systems.  Install environments range from small single commercial units to large multi-building sites within schools, offices, manufacturing premises, warehouses, factories, retail, leisure and restaurants to name a few sectors.

T H WHITE will work with you to decide on the best option for your business or can take on servicing of existing systems.  Learn more about VESDA (Xtralis).
